the complicated bureaucracy, politics and personalities of Pawnee’s city hall — as deputy director of the parks department for four seasons, and as a city councilwoman in the upcoming fifth season — so she’ll no doubt find the nation’s capital both intriguing and frustrating. The show is looking for extras of all ages and ethnicities, plus a woman 60 years or older to play an “older woman tourist” and tall, brunette women in their 20s and 30s to play “very attractive” Washington staffers.

Starring: Susan Sarandon & Amy Sedaris Directed by Mike Tully |
||
Susan Sarandon is set to star in Ping-Pong Summer and will begin shooting the film in September in Ocean City, Md. Michael Tully is directing from his own script. Set in the summer of 1985, the coming-of-age film centers on a teenage boy obsessed with the game and hip-hop and a family vacation that changes everything. Sarandon’s involvement is a logical extension of her publicized love of the game: The Oscar-winning actress started a Ping-Pong program for New York City students, SPiN, bringing the game to schools across the five boroughs. She recently told Forbes that she plans to franchise the program to other cities like L.A. The film’s producers include Steve Bannatyne, Derrick Tseng, and entertainment attorneys Steven C. Beer and George Rush; Nomadic Independence duo Ryan Zacarias and Brooke Bernard, who worked with Tully on his previous film, Septien; and Court 13’s Michael Gottwald. The film is seeking additional financing. Sarandon is repped by ICM. |

MOVIE NEWS Ray Liotta Discovering A Better Living Through Chemistry From Cinemablend.com Author: Sean O'Connell |

Ray Liotta might know a thing or two about better living through chemistry, though we doubt that’s what helped him land a gig in Geoff Moore and David Posamentier’s upcoming dramedy. Deadline reports that the Goodfellas icon has been cast as Olivia Wilde’s husband in the planned feature Better Living Through Chemistry, which will be produced by Occupant Films. Wilde replaced Jennifer Garner in the former Black List script after the Alias star had to bow out because of her recent pregnancy. Adding Liotta only amps the acting muscle in this impressive cast as Moore and Posamentier, directing from their own script, have already lured Sam Rockwell, Michelle Monaghan and Dame Judi Dench for pivotal roles. The story focuses on a humdrum pharmacist (Rockwell) who enters into a sordid affair with a trophy-wife regular customer (Wilde), sending both of their lives into a debilitating spiral. Better Living reportedly will begin filming in May in hopes of hitting a 2013 release date. Liotta basically makes every ensemble better and later this year, he’ll shine in three additional features. Audiences will be able to see him opposite Brad Pitt in Andrew Dominik’s crime thriller Killing Me Softly; he’ll co-star with Ryan Gosling in Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines, the director’s follow-up to Blue Valentine; and he has a part in writer/director Jacob Aaron Estes’ comedy The Details. Most actors would kill to have just one of those roles. Liotta’s primed to slay in all three parts, and Better Living proves he just keeps piling up worthy challenges. It’s a good time to be Ray Liotta … and a Liotta fan, as well. |

Written & Directed by ARMANDO IANNUCCI APRIL 16, 2011 - Baltimore Sun HBO picks up "VEEP" - Maryland back in TV biz HBO will announce on Monday that it has decided to pick up "VEEP," the political satire pilot filmed in Maryland and starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The decision by TV's top cable channel will put the state back in the film and TV production business at a level that it hasn't known since the end of "The Wire" in 2008. The pilot alone is estimated by the Maryland Film Office to have provided $6 million in economic impact for the state economy. More than 200 area actors found work in supporting roles and as extras. While HBO's official announcement is not expected until Monday, the channel did confirm the pickup, which the local production community has been holding its breath over since the pilot filmed here in late February and early March. Production in Maryland is expected to start in the fall -- with a debut in early 2012. As previously reported the at Z on TV, Armando Iannucci ("In the Loop") will direct and produce. Other executive producers will include Frank Rich, of New York Magazine, and Simon Blackwell, who co-wrote the pilot with Ianucci. Louis-Dreyfus, the one-time "Seinfeld" star and two-time Emmy Award winner, will be a producer. In the Washington-set satire, Louis-Dreyfus plays a former senator who suddenly finds herself as vice president of the United States. Baltimore will stand in for Washington. The cast will also include Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky and Reid Scott. As previously reported here, such film and TV veterans as casting director Pat Moran sang the praises of Louis-Dreyfus, Ianucci and the team that filmed the pilot on locations around Baltimore and a sound stage in Columbia. While the writing, directing and on-set chemistry seemed to be in place, some in the production community wondered whether Maryland could put together an attractive enough incentive package to get the series made here. The news of the General Assembly upping TV and film incentives from $1 million this year to $7.5 million in the fiscal year that starts July 1 seems to have addressed that. That story was first reported here at Z on TV on Thursday. And this is not a case of a state throwing money in the direction of Hollywood hoping some of it will return. This is a case of a cable channel already having spent some money here to make a pilot that was now in the can. It was a chance for the state of Maryland to work with TV's most celebrated cable channel to provide hundreds of jobs and support some of the film-related businesses that have struggled to hang on since "The Wire" ended. And until production starts in the fall, members of Maryland's TV and film community will be employed working on another big-name HBO production, an adaptation of the political best-seller "Game Change," which told the backstage story of the 2008 presidential election. The made-for-TV movie is scheduled to start production "in and around Baltimore" starting the last week of April. Its cast features Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and Ed Harris. Again, Baltimore will stand in for Washington. |

Julianne Moore to play Sarah Palin in HBO pic 'Game Change' tells the story of McCain's 2008 presidential run Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin? You betcha. The actress has been cast to play the former Alaska governor in HBO's telepic "Game Change," an examination of Arizona Sen. John McCain's failed 2008 presidential campaign. No other casting has been set. Movie is based on the book of the same name by authors John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. Jay Roach is attached to direct a script from Danny Strong, who previously penned HBO's Roach-helmed "Recount," the story behind the 2000 controversial election of George W. Bush over Al Gore. Roach will exec produce via his Everyman Pictures shingle. No timetable has been announced for when the film will go into production. Pay cabler has delved into the political arena with its original films on a number of occasions, including "Recount," which explored the disputed George W. Bush-Al Gore presidential election of 2000, and "The Special Relationship," which centered on the friendship between President Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Palin, who resigned as governor of Alaska in 2009, has not officially thrown her hat into the ring for the 2012 presidential race, but often appears at Republican Party gatherings. A virtual unknown by both political observers and voters prior to the 2008 Republican convention, Palin was elected by McCain to be his running mate at the GOP's gathering. |
